Despite the fact that he looked like a deer that has been chased for days and is now caught in the headlines, The current US President stood before the American people and made his case for the Wall Street bailout. Maybe I'm mellowing a little, but I say you have to give him a little credit for standing up and admitting that the economy has gone to hell in a hand basket on his watch.
This had to be worse than facing impeachment.
Reuters is reporting:
" President George W. Bush on Wednesday said the United States was in a serious financial crisis as he tried to convince Americans to support a $700 billion financial rescue plan.
'We are in the midst of a serious financial crisis and the federal government is responding with decisive action,' Bush said in a televised national address.
He warned that 'the market is not functioning properly,' there is widespread loss of confidence, major sectors are at risk, and more banks could fail and threaten sending the U.S. economy into recession. 'We must not let this happen,' Bush said.

I want to believe that this wasn't just another Bush/Cheney scare tactic.
As bad as the news was, I want to believe that this time the threat is real and imminent.
And most of all I really want to believe that the person, George W. Bush has finally learned the lessons that "humility is not weakness" and that "you can learn from listening to dissenting opinions."
I want to believe that when a man can't save his legacy, he can still save his soul and maybe help save his nation.
Oh my, I'm mellowing.
