You Call This Insulation

When asked during an interview with Rush Limbaugh  if he would resign over the Foley scandal,  Rep.  Dennis Hastert R-Ill., replied, "I'm not going to do that."  He then continued by saying "We are the insulation to protect this country, and if they get to me it looks like they could affect our election as well."    The "We"  referring to the republican party.

However, today Rep. Ray LaHood , a close friend of Hastert and also a republican from Illinois,  asked for a temporary suspension of the congressional page program.   According to an article by Andrew Taylor, an Associated Press writer,   " He ( LaHood)  questioned an "antiquated" congressional page system that brings 15- and 16-year-olds to the Capitol and has resulted in scandals in the past.  'Some members betray their trust by taking advantage of them. We should not subject young men and women to this kind of activity, this kind of vulnerability,'  "

Now will someone please tell me how the republican party can insulate a nation against terrorism when they can't protect the 15-16 year old congressional pages entrusted to their care in their own house?
