Did your really mean "godless heavens" (A contradiction in terms if there ever was one). Mighty it be godless heathens?
Quick thought: When Elijah called down fire from heavens to consume his offering after the prophets of Baal couldn't conjure their deity (or deities) he wasn't setting himself against the godless heathen -- but against the idolatrous heathen. Mere religion is little better than no religion if it does not involve courting the real and living God.
