Thought For The Day

Ministering to Our Friends
by Paul Faulkner

It takes people, real people who care, not things, to cure emotional problems. God expects the members of his family to minister and to love one another. He designed the church to be a place where people absolutely refused to lord it over one another.

Have you ever asked yourself what the church is? Jesus said it is a community of people -- Jesus seekers -- who love one another. "Love one another as I have loved you" (John 15:12 NKJV). That's Jesus' command to us. In fact, the Lord said that this love will be the way folks will recognize that we are his followers (John 13:35). And in another place, Jesus told us, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13).

Millions of people who are lonely and heartbroken could be healed if they will allow God's people to love them and God's people choose to step outside their church boxes and reach out to them with love.

So let's make the rest of today work a little better -- and how about making a commitment to follow today with another and another and .... Try sharing yourself lovingly and completely with a few friends in the community of Christ. It will make your day! And theirs too!

Title: Sea of Life

You were there with me
While I swayed back and forth
Unsure of where I was going
On the rough sea of life.

You were there for me
When no horizon was in sight
Holding me in your arms
As I cried my salty tears.

You were there beside me
Reaching out with your hand
Lifting me up from the deep
To keep me from drowning.

You were there with me
Reviving me with your love
Giving me strength to go on
Giving me hope . . . giving me life.
